Au milieu de nulle part est une expression qui pointe une chose ou un emplacement isolé, qui sort de l'ordinaire ou qui fait saillie de manière inopinée à partir de l'immensité plane. Littéralement une situation insituable – une absurdité, un paradoxe, une tromperie, un leurre, un éclat – qui représente un objet fabuleux pour la photographie.
Les photographes Pascal Grandmaison, Isabelle Hayeur et Thomas Kneubühler, réunis ici pour la première fois, ont en commun cet intérêt manifeste pour ce qui n'est pas censé être au centre de l'attention. Par le cadrage photographique ils proposent un autre découpage du réel pour nous emmener ailleurs. Non pas vers quelque forme d'exotisme mais, bien au contraire et plus familièrement, « au milieu de nulle part ».
L'exposition Au milieu de nulle part réunit 53 œuvres photographiques issues de différentes séries réalisées entre 1998 et 2011.
Cette exposition est présentée avec le soutien de la Galerie René Blouin (Montréal), de la Galerie Division (Montréal) et de la Galerie Eponyme (Bordeaux).

La Galerie de l’UQAM est heureuse d’annoncer sa participation à l’événement Montréal/Brooklyn, un incontournable de l’automne. Montréal/Brooklyn, c'est la première rencontre artistique entre les deux villes depuis plus d'une décennie. Le projet, une initiative du Centre Clark qui regroupe 16 institutions, réunit près de 40 artistes visuels issus de nos scènes effervescentes et hétérogènes et propose une série d’évènements spéciaux.
Pour la présentation à la Galerie de l’UQAM, les commissaires ont sélectionné, dans leur ville respective, le travail d’artistes bien ancrés dans leur milieu. Vidéozones est une compilation vidéographique d’œuvres de sept artistes de Montréal et de six artistes vivant à Brooklyn, qui explorent de manière singulière les dimensions formelles et narratives de l’image en mouvement.

Les Rencontres Internationales se dérouleront à Paris du 18 au 26 novembre 2011 au Centre Pompidou et à la Gaîté lyrique. Elles créeront pendant 9 jours un espace de découverte et de réflexion entre nouveau cinéma et art contemporain.
En présence d'artistes et de réalisateurs du monde entier, cette édition exceptionnelle proposera une programmation internationale inédite, avec 25 séances de projection, une journée hors les murs proposant un parcours entre plusieurs expositions en Ile-de- France, un cycle de tables rondes.

The Vancouver Art Gallery will turn its exterior into an open-air exhibition space with CUE: Artists’ Videos, a presentation of video art on the Gallery’s Robson Street façade.
CUE: Artists' Videos will feature many of the most innovative and compelling visual artists working in video and film today, including such internationally acclaimed artists as Fischli & Weiss, Gary Hill, William Kentridge, Kimsooja, Tim Lee, Myfanwy McLeod and Paul Wong. Seven programs range from works that address cinematic language in video to those that utilize performances made specifically for the camera, as well as works that examine the age of spectacle or speak to the everyday.

BORROWING FROM CINEMA
This program includes works that refer to the well-known aesthetic and narrative strategies of mainstream cinema. Increasingly since the 1990s, many video artists have adopted the conventions of Hollywood cinema by using cast and crew, sets, and high-end post-production, creating works of art that self-consciously comment on, and often critique, this dominant form.
